About Our Research

The BITE Lab is currently conducting several studies led by Dr. Andrea Goldschmidt. Our research primarily focuses on understanding mechanisms that drive maladaptive eating behaviors and poor weight outcomes in children and adolescents. Members of our team include faculty, investigators beyond the University of Pittsburgh community, pre- and post-doctoral scholars, graduate students, research staff, and undergraduate research assistants. The goal of our research is to aid the development of neurobiologically-informed interventions for eating- and weight-related problems.

Our projects utilize methodologies such as neuroimaging (fMRI), smartphone-based ecological momentary assessment (EMA), and sleep actigraphy watches.

We are fortunate to receive funding for our research efforts from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), including the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
